What Lies Just Behind and Just Under
So much of what we experience masks so much more.
We marvel at a dense green garden atop a tall building.
And yet we are more moved by the blessing nearby,
For the woman in the coral and aqua pants.
We wonder about the man, seemingly going about
His business even as he has lost his best friend.
At first, we judge him, but then look into our own mirrors.
Then the girls in “the pickup” truck strike us as shallow
And frivolous, until we look more carefully and see that
Even they carry the wisdom of three goddesses.
And the very dreams we so cherish, painfully not remembered,
Are later seen as space holders for the sacred machinations of
Our brains, readying us for gifts and insights that we cannot imagine.
It’s getting clear that we ought to give that second glance a chance,
If we are to really know the depth and power inside the big dance!
